Volvo PentaSuffolk, Virginia
Volvo Penta operates a testing and maintenance facility on Chuckatuck Creek. This project included permits and design to replace the timber bulkhead, dredge, construct floating finger piers, a concrete boat ramp, and a site plan for building expansion. The new bulkhead is timber sheets driven within 2' of the existing bulkhead. Since the existing bulkhead includes batter piles, careful construction sequencing was imperative to maintain the integrity of the existing bulkhead. Dredge material was mechanically dredged into barges, transferred into trucks on site and trucked to an approved landfill. To offset wetland losses resulting from boat ramp construction, a wetland mitigation area was constructed on site. A portion of the existing high ground was graded down to mean tide level and sprigged with Spartina Alternaflora. The slope was stabilized with riprap.
